• @MarilynEDU Timely question. My “most challenging” invited me to see his goat at the fair yesterday. I went. He proudly showed me his goat & all the baby kids. So good to see Ss in their own environments. #KidsDeserveIt #BetterTogetherCA
    • @MrsBarnett_Tchr I had something similar happen last year…my “most challenging” invited me to his basketball game – he was surprised that I had gone. That invite is more than an invitation to an event it’s an opening to building a better relationship. #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
    • @MarilynEDU Exactly, Angela! Relationships + Empathy = Success in the Classroom
  • @BridgetGengler A2: Relationships have always been key and essential to my whole classroom community. I connect with my students, especially with the most challenging, by taking the time to know the whole child. #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
  • @KristinOropeza  A2: Being at four different school sites with grade levels TK-5th, I’ve tried my best to get Ss names down. When they tell me stuff they like doing or something they did well previously, I try to remember that and bring that up again. I want them to know I care. #BetterTogetherCA

  • @MrsBarnett_Tchr A4: There has been so many parts to my educational journey and difft people along the way that have cheered me on. Most recently I do have to say it’s been folks I have met thru Twitter or IRL at Conferences who have been my cheerleaders –
  • @BridgetGengler  A4: Trying to successfully meet the needs of all my students can be a bit overwhelming. Throughout the years I have had some great colleagues and principals who have cheered me on. But my constant cheerleaders are always my husband and children. #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt

  • @BridgetGengler A5: I have realized that not all my students need the same thing and their way of learning is different. Over the past few years I have really strived to learn that about each child and tailor more towards his/her needs. #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt

  • @MrsBarnett_Tchr A6: Over the last few years I have really worked on student voice… Ss use all-calls to get the class’ attention – they are responsible for simple check-ins like “Did everyone get ___?” Ss use post-its to leave me notes & notes for each other #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
  • @BridgetGengler A6: Student voice is so important. I allow opportunities through morning meetings, gratitude notes, kindness notes, and tell your story. There also is a leader for the day who runs morning meeting. #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt

  • @MrsBarnett_Tchr A8: I feel like I fail forward All the Time with tech…most recently. I had my 3rds work in collaborative slide groups (4) – Finished their projects & it was time to submit…HOW?? Figured out a solution during class w/ the help of Ss #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
    • @MrsBarnett_Tchr I’ve had to do a lot of problem solving with Google Classroom + sharing/grouping assignments in class bc the T end looks so different. Not only do my Ss get to see me persevere but they are learning right there with me  #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
  • @BridgetGengler A8: I am always failing forward but I always try to take it as a learning experience.  If I can share it with my Ss then it is better for all of us. The vulnerable moments to demonstrate growth mindset are such great teachable moments. #BetterTogetherCA #kidsdeserveit

  • disruption of classroom time due to meetings, PD, testing, etc
  • multiple meetings after school
  • time to plan
  • watching past students have a challenging yr
  • not enough appropriate resources for Ss (ie counseling)

#BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIT

  • @MrsBarnett_Tchr A11: I unplug every time a device dies … I just let it die. I don’t think I have ever “feared” being disconnected – I’m actually notorious for leaving my phone at home when I leave the house  #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
    • @Corey_D2019 This helps me be able to set a good example as well as focus more on what matters
  • @MarilynEDU I’ve actually taken Twitter off my phone and I got off Facebook about 5 years ago. (I do have an edu account that I rarely use.) That has really helped me unplug. I feel more “present” when I’m around people without the lure of SM. #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
    • @MrsBarnett_Tchr Not sure if I’m there yet (removing Twitter) – but I don’t use FB & I did remove my work email from my phone (that was a BIG step)  Agree…I really try to be mindful about being “present” – SM is such a distraction #BetterTogetherCA  #KidsDeserveIt
    • @MarilynEDU No work on your phone is huge! I just never put it on. I have to admit that I do have occasions when I pull the Twitters back up on my phone, particularly when traveling. I think being mindful of our SM use is key. Angela, I’m loving your thoughtful questions. #BetterTogetherCA
    • @MrsBarnett_Tchr Thanks, Marilyn! about the questions  🙂 really appreciate that bc each time I post them there is a little doubt (crossing my fingers – “hope these are good”) #BetterTogetherCA #KidsDeserveIt
    • @MarilynEDU You’re doing a fantastic job leading the book study!!! #BetterTogetherCA
    • @MrsBarnett_Tchr Thanks Marilyn – That means A Lot
